Thanks to https://bsky.app/profile/loudpoet.com, who shared Anil Dash’s post about Substack with me on Thursday night, I came to the inescapable conclusion that I can’t blog/newsletter on a platform that is actively supporting hate speech – and using the content of non-bigots to provide cover for that hate speech.
So I’m back to WordPress. I was gathering up a tiny community over at Substack, but it’s time to move that community elsewhere.
This is a lesson I already learned once, in the past few weeks. I held on too long on Twitter, just because I had friends remaining there, but after the election (and when Musk announced that all Twitter content would be fed into whatever Rube-Goldbergian AI machine he’s got going over there), I cut bait and moved to Bluesky.
The funny thing is, after Bluesky blew up, hatemongers attempted to flood the site and impose their trolling onto people who wanted nothing to do with it. And that’s the point of these people. They are despoilers. They like to shit all over things. They get off on coercion and abuse.
Hopefully over here I’ll have more control. My newsletter hadn’t yet become a shitting ground for Nazis, but I don’t even want to take that chance. At least here, even though I fight with templates and buttons and widgets (and it is a fight to get things looking even close to what you want them to) – well, I’ll take that over unknowingly supporting the worst among us. A tiny community is better than a shit farm.
So thanks to all 34 of you who have followed me over here. You’re kind, and I definitely want to keep it that way.
